6/4/2010 Day 98 of Jonesy's Journey-The President of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, Peter Wilderotter, has called the need for focus and medical help for people with spinal cord injury a "civil rights movement." And so it is. If enough people with SCI make enough noise and demand action, there will be action. Real action will only become a priority when the outcry is too loud to be ignored.
6/5/2010 Day 99 of Jonesy's Journey- Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation fact of the day: Paralysis and SCI in the U.S.There are nearly 1 in 50 people living with paralysis in the United States -- approximately 6 million people. That number is nearly 33% higher than previous estimates showed. Almost 1.3 million of those are spinal cord injured. It means that we all know someone living with paralysis. They live with a condition that affects their family life, their ability to work, and their capacity to enjoy everyday activities.

6/9/2010 Day 103 of Jonesy's Journey- From Christopher Reeve's autobiography Still Me. The doctors had explained my condition, and now I understood how serious it was. This was not a C5-C6, which means you're in a wheelchair but you can use your arms and breathe on your own. C1-C2 is about as bad as it gets. Why not die and save everyone a lot of trouble?Dana came into the room. She stood beside me, and we made eye contact. I mouthed my first lucid words to her: "Maybe we should let me go." Dana started crying. She said, " I am only going to say this once: I will support whatever you want to do, because this is your life, and your decision. But I want you to know that I'll be with you for the long haul, no matter what." Then she added the words that saved my life: "You're still you. And I love you."
6/10/2010 Day 104 of Jonesy's Journey-Some advice: If you haven't taken care of business do so now: health care proxy, living will, will, guardianship for your children, know your health care policy benefits, if you have a choice go for the best policy available, buy disability insurance, you get the picture...............
6/10/2010 Day 104 of Jonesy's Journey-Jonesy's bed rest orders are extended through Monday-that pressure sore is as stubborn as he is.
6/12/2010 Day 106 of Jonesy's Journey-How much does Liliana miss her Daddy? Today she went up to every man in the library and said "Hi Da-da".
